Cards for Coaches
I have always been the kind of person who is inspired by the things I see and hear from those I look up to. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a wonderful group of family and friends who love and support me. Growing up in a sports oriented family allowed me to be taught and coached by many great coaches and mentors over the years. From my father coaching me as a young boy, through the junior ranks, to my college coaches, they all have had a part in shaping who I was as an athlete, and certainly who I am as a person.
Though sometimes their influence and impact on my life wasn’t always immediate or evident at the time, they all left me with something. To this day I find myself drawing from the many lessons and words of wisdom they have passed along. Having had the fortunate opportunity to coach my son in hockey and baseball, I realized a great chance to pass on what I have learned. I also realized a great respect for those who have coached me and the frustration they must have had over the years trying to make me understand what is so clear to me now.
Those who have coached may not all agree that it is a fortunate position…as we all know of the headaches and inevitable politics that come with coaching minor athletics. The words “it’s a thankless job” have been uttered to me by many parents over the years. Though it’s true…the good does come with some bad…I wouldn’t change a minute of the years I spent coaching the kids. Even when I was not coaching, I always had a great appreciation for my son’s coaches.
The passion and respect I have for coaching and mentoring young athletes, has grown from the passion to inspire I’ve learned to recognize my coaches always had when coaching me. I recognized that they were not only teaching me about the sport, but about life as well. In hindsight, I don’t think I could ever thank them enough. It is from these feelings and thoughts, that I was inspired to write and bring “Cards for Coaches” to life.
Thank you for visiting and reading. I hope we offer something that helps you thank that special coach in your life.
